About Bandhavgarh National Park
Bandhavgarh is a small, compact national park in Madhya Pradesh — yet it holds the highest density of tiger population anywhere in India. Spread across 448 sq km in the Vindhya hill range, the park is centred around the historic Bandhavgarh Fort, which rises 811 metres above sea level. Its terrain of rocky hills, sal forest, open meadows (locally called ‘bohera’), and swampy valley bottoms makes it one of the most photogenic and wildlife-rich parks in the country.
The park was once the private hunting reserve of the Maharajas of Rewa — the last known white tiger, Mohun, was captured here in 1951 and is now on display at the palace of Maharaja Martand Singh. Bandhavgarh became a National Park in 1968.

Wildlife Viewing
The main way of exploring the park is by motor vehicle (jeep/gypsy safari). Safaris are best undertaken from dawn until about 10 am, and from about 4 pm until dusk, when animals are most active. A Forest Department guide always accompanies visitors and helps spot and identify wildlife.
